SMALL RESEARCH GRANTS

Small Grant Deadline- 31 January

Amount

The maximum single amount is £1,500.

Purpose of the scheme

  • To provide 'pump-priming' funds for the purchase of small items of equipment or consumables to support young researchers or new areas of research which are not yet ready for Research Council support.

  • To provide funds for small items of equipment or consumables needed for ongoing projects where funds may not be available, either from department sources or from other grant-awarding bodies.

  • To support educational and/or quality improvement activities which have a potential for patient benefit and professional development.

The research scheme will not support costs of travel or subsistence for attending meetings or for visiting other departments or units. Funds for these may be applied for under the British Society for Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology Scholarship Scheme. The scheme will not meet indirect costs, or costs of such things as postage or items normally expected to be available in a department, e.g. stationery, photocopying or basic laboratory consumables.

Eligibility

  • The scheme is open to any individual working in the field of Oral, Maxillofacial and Head & Neck Pathology.

  • It is the wish of the BSOMP particularly to support young researchers who may not yet have achieved a track record and who wish to pursue a career in Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology.

  • Applicants must be members of the BSOMP or must be sponsored by a member of the BSOMP.

A complete application consists of three components:

  1. a completed application form

  2. a letter of support from the Head of Department

  3. a brief CV

Applications should be emailed to the Honorary Secretary by 31st January.

Dr Hannah Walsh

Email: secretary@bsomp.org.uk

There will be no age limit placed upon applicants, but applications from younger workers would be particularly welcomed.

On receipt of applications, the Honorary Secretary will circulate copies to 3 Council members, who will judge the proposals. The group will inform Council of their decision. Council will after consideration announce the outcome at the Annual General Meeting of the Society.
